A Stargazey Starry Quilt

A quilt that will be recognised by many, this Stargazey - Slender Starz pattern is a gift to you for being one of the first to discover our adventures online. Click on the DOWNLOAD button below and it's yours.

This Slender Starz block uses the signature Stargazey method: there are no templates, just an unusual technique of slicing, covering corners and stitching the background back together. Your first attempt will not be speedy, but no need to panic, you will be led through this amazing process step-by-step.

It’s designed in four sizes: 5”, 6”, 8” and 10”, giving you flexibility across projects. Use the smaller sizes for cot quilts, the larger sizes for bold, full-scale quilts, or mix them together for borders and layouts that shift and change.

The sample design includes a freeform lattice border, created using the same slicing and re-stitching technique.

"Simply stunning in two colours or wonderfully wild if you mix up the background and star fabrics. Enjoy making these starz dance!"

Jan Mullen is the maker and designer of many more patterns you can find in Stargazey's catalogue.

About Stargazey

Jan Mullen has long influenced the quilting world with her unmistakable Stargazey style, where playful, free-flowing designs are built from cutting, shifting, and stitching pieces back together in unexpected ways.

Jan’s Stargazey work challenges many of the conventions of traditional quilting, freeing quilters from templates and hours of mathematical problem-solving. Each quilt becomes a unique expression of its maker, where fabric choice, construction, and creativity combine in different ways every time.

Her workshops, lectures and teaching took her around the world, beginning at quilting
conventions in Texas and continuing across the United States, Europe, India, Uzbekistan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the Whitsundays, among many others. Quilters are drawn to her quirky, crooked techniques and the way complex-looking designs are adaptable to any skill level.

Jan eventually returned home full-time to Fremantle in Western Australia, continuing to teach locally while developing her work as an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, leader and creative educator.

Stargazey is now opening its patterns, skills and techniques to the online world.
